The best way to build an awesome band is to make sure that there is a very strong foundation developed. Anna how’s the foundation is the cement footings. In music especially on an instrument the foundation is built on the basic skills that are needed to excel on an instrument. Often students will take private lessons and study in a band class. Many different Materials are used to aid this development. There is a new Book available that could change this the system. It will revolutionize the way bands are taught. Most books merely have a sequence of songs for the kids to practice. This new beginning band method block that is called in the zone it’s actually a full band curriculum. It starts out with the very basic level in all areas needed to develop into a.m. advanced musicians. There’re 10 levels contained in the book. This is not your normal beginning band method book. It has exercises that developed in every unit. Each skill is isolated so that the student can master that skill before continuing onto the following unit. The next unit will then review that skill and progress so that the student is constantly achieving higher levels of musicianship. These areas include both playing and theoretical knowledge it also includes improvisation and a bit on composer history. This book hits the national standards more than any book that I have ever seen in this area. The students develop their tone quality they’re on the sure strength and their range as well as their ability to connect with their fingers and their articulations together. The middle section in each unit is made up of theoretical the Studies that help the students understand about music itself so that they will be able to perform the music that is before them. In this section they learn about how the PL keyboard works they learn how key signatures work they’ll learn about time signatures and how the beats work in a measure they learn about basic music notation they learn about note reading they learned the symbols and terms used in music they learn about dynamics articulations and temple markings. There is than special attention paid to rhythms rhythms are so crucial and music that there’s extra in this area each unit has a quartet that is written out that students can clap or play other instruments or they can even use body percussion to perform following the rhythm portion of each unit there’s a section that has songs these songs use these skills and the notes that the students of learned in their skill development section this be getting down to method buck includes exercises and the songs with the students need to fill in the blanks to show that they understand what they are doing they have to identify different aspects of the music in each exercise. Once a student finishes the the plane portion there is a little bit more at the end there are a few ensembles or duets or trios some units have rounds in them so the students can start getting a little more independence and they’re playing at the end there is a section that focuses on a composer is small excerpt of one of the composers compositions is included and there is a small biography of this the composer. The students need to answer some questions about that composer and then they have a chance to write their own short composition using the notes and rhythms from the unit they have completed. They will also apply the skills that they have learned in their music notation portion of the unit. There is also included a small improvisation exercise starting in unit three. The students have a baseline written where is the class can split up and play the bass line where individuals or sections of students can take turns improvising. They’re suggested notes to use that will fit with the given baseline. This isn’t it particularly important for the students to gain independence and accuracy in their rhythm playing where they can keep in time with the rest of the group. In all of the portions of the book where students are playing their instruments there are practice checks for each of the practice checks the students need to be able to clap and count the exercise they need to be able to sing the exercise saying no names or they could also use solfeggio the teacher prefers that method. Use extra time to review that further. When practicing in an ensemble this particular band method book is very unique in that it is developed in a Buddy system format. One person or group plays the top part and another person or group plays the bottom part this way there’re many different advantages. You could have somebody playing the top part that is demonstrating a proper tone quality or articulation that you would like the others to really focus on listening to and trying to emulate that same quality. You also may want to have the whole group to one part and isolate tip isolate the top part so that you can better hear the student that you’re trying to give extra attention to. You can then give them the extra attention needed well all of the rest of the ensemble is still working to develop their skills and they’re very actively involved in the class as well. The success of this book has been overwhelming. Students are developing their sight reading skills tremendously. This is the way to make sure that that a certain area is not skipped with a certain student if a student has to complete each unit they will be guaranteed to of covered all of the areas of study. How to Build an Awesome Band – Audible Intelligence Music
