Buffalo River is a duet written for mixed saxophones, one alto and one tenor. It features hard driving rhythms that are easy to play and fun for the developing player. Most of the texture is homophonic and the harmony is simple and strong. This piece will inspire confidence in young players new to duets. In addition, there is a short imitative section which will introduce students to counterpoint and independent lines. After this section the piece returns to the main theme for an energetic closing. Buffalo River is an ideal introduction into the possibilities found in duet playing. Enjoy!
