Performance suggestions to Director or Leader:
The following performance suggestions are to help in developing this arrangement into a rewarding piece of music. You will find a great deal of flexibility in this combo chart, and feel free to organize and present this music in any way you like.
This composition is a Medium up tempo calypso tune in the Latin Jazz style. The opening montuno-like material in the piano part sets the tone for the motion of the piece. The introduction is in two parts and the main theme begins at letter A. The tune is pretty straight forward and requires precision in the melodic area. The punching, driving nature of the tune is particularly exciting, and can be emphasized as you perform. The head builds nicely to the solo section, and then the fun begins. You may organize the solos with your interpretation. A percussion break might be appropriate after the solos or between solos. You may arrange this in a way that is to your liking.
The solo section is the A and B sections of the tune. After solos, the D.C. al fine will complete the arrangement. The fine is located just before letter C. Each section of the tune builds in interest and should be played with excitement in mind. The tune is fun to play, and the soloists will find the changes interesting and very approachable. This is one of my favorites. I like the way it comes to life right from the opening measures. Have fun with this one. I hope you enjoy this music. Thank you.
