Performance suggestions to Director or Leader:
The following performance suggestions are to help in developing this arrangement into a rewarding piece of music. You will find a great deal of flexibility in this combo chart, and feel free to organize and present this music in any way you like.
The tempo indicates medium, but this is up to your own interpretation. The composition is a Brazilian Ballad in a kind of Bossa Nova style. The introduction sets up the A section. The form of the piece is A,B,C, then solos. I would suggest that perhaps the trumpet play A as a solo with the rhythm section, alto sax play the B section, and the tenor play the C section. This presents a nice contrast and the melody works well performed by these contrasting voices.
The tune works well if you have the trumpet play the first solo over the A material and the alto play over the B material. The solo section is the A,B material. Everyone may play the C section and then play the D.S. to coda to complete the performance. This tune has a beautiful sounding melody and is a nice contrast in your set; it certainly may be used as a ballad in the Latin context.
You may also choose other options with respect to performance. If you have a strong soloist, you might want to make a feature for that particular player. A piano or guitar solo might also be something you may include. As a final suggestion, the idea of the head being represented by different voices is very effective. The composition is again flexible and gives you the freedom to arrange the presentation to your liking. The tune creates a very beautiful type of sound and the audience will appreciate the performance. I hope you enjoy this music. Thank you.
Musically yours,
Delbert Bump
